Great News!  We have been chosen to receive a grant that will greatly help to provide a more secure environment for the Minis and Friends South Austin Minis at Onion Creek Ranch.

Our owners received a call today from Electrobraid Fencing that we are receiving a grant of Electrobraid fencing and it will arrive within the next 10 days.  Our mini-mom Sally is so excited she's got everyone excited. Thank you, thank you ElectroBraid!

Us minis are excited to - because now we can run and play and kick up our heels and fly through the pastures without everyone worrying we will get out of the old fences or sneak out to look for grass.

MasterCard and Poncho at Casa Iwanski 020

Hay, everyone - my people are helping the minis at Hearts and Hooves of Lubbock to let the world know of the horrible attack on their minis - Oreo (who didn't make it), Honor and Jolly, Sparkles and Pepper Jack.  We all help to support each other regardless of where we live.

Here in Austin, we're having a big time too.  We had Jared and Kayla who are Seniors at St.Edwards University, over to where we live during the weekdays - at Buckshot's place -  and they learned about working with miniature horses.  Jared, we hope will start doing jogging with us on weekends - because we eat so much during winter for warmth - we need to jog off that hay belly.

Kayla's a blast too - and she'll be helping at a visit to Sammy's House in February with my people and the Georgetown crew and their humans.  Can't wait to make new friends!

Hay-  this is SeanMonet now.  In Georgetown, they are getting all kinds of new volunteers soon from Southwestern University.  Hay, Cashew, how about Candy telling everyone what's happening up there?  We hear these great students will be building you guys a shelter maybe? And what's happening with a visit there?

Every November is the Celtic Festival so I dressed up Buckshot in his finest tam o'shanter (had to cut earholes in it) and put on the Sutherland tartan shirt of my anscestry and we loaded up and headed for Town Lake. It was a beautiful, sunny day.

Buckshot and his buddy Stardust met up with Sean Monet and Mastercard and a couple of other minis from the group. Buckshot likes to eat, like any horse, so he plunged his muzzle into the green grass of the river bottom while the grounds started to fill up with men in kilts (ah yes!) and tall Scottish deerhounds on leashes and visitors.

This is my story of Cashew and his trip today to bring some sunshine on 'a cloudy day' to meet his newest friend.

My friend, Becky, works with Hospice and she called us to come to see one of her patients. So this morning, Cashew and I visited a lady who I will refer to as 'Mrs. Sweetness'. She is an Alzheimer's patient at the Wesleyan here in Georgetown. She is non-responsive with little or no eye contact.  She does not stand on her own.  As a young woman, this lady had ridden horses, so we thought that with a visit with Cash, she might respond..
 
'Mrs Sweetness' was in her wheelchair when we got there and had her eyes closed with "fisted" hands.  Cashew went up to her and the aid who helped her stand up, said "she is standing on her own". She opened her eyes and touched her hands to Cashew's forelock.  She held on to it for several minutes.  Her son would take her hands and touch them to Cashew's coat and hair. 

It was an awe inspiring sight between horse and mother and son!

After a few minutes, the lady got tired and sat down, but continued to let them place her hands on his neck and face. Cashew put his head down on her leg at one point and looked like he was about to go to sleep. As our new friend tired, she closed her eyes and was taken back to her room.  Cashew and I walked back to her room with her family. She was non-responsive again by then, but walking Cashew on the tile floor seemed to perk her up a little.  She seemed to know that Cashew was there.  Cashew laid his head against her leg and she received that nuzzle calmly.
 
I told Becky and the lady's son that I would be glad to go back to spend some time with her, so I may be going back again soon.  I would love to give the family just a little bit of joy when they see their mom feeling a little better.

I want to take a ride

Hi, I'm Skittles, although my human parents, Candy and Dean, call me Baby Doll sometimes.  I'm looking at a miniature jeep because I want a ride and it's just my size. But, I'm only 3 months old, in this picture, and I couldn't drive yet!  I live in Georgetown with my mom, Khaki and dad, Cashew.  I 'got' my mommy's girth and my daddy's 'long legs', Now I'm 7 months old, and I am almost jet black now that I have my winter coat.  I'm spunky and I love to run and jump and kick my legs a little, just cause I want someone to run and play with me!  If you come to visit me, I'll give you a big hug and I'll lick your hands and snuggle with you.  And hopefully, you'll have a sweet treat for me!

Hi, my name is Khaki and I'm standing in this picture with my little girl, Skittles.  My boa is multi-colored,  and Skittles is pretty in pink. On Saturday, two of the neighborhood kids came over to visit me and to spend some time trying to get my spunky Skittles, to walk nicely on her lead. She did very well for them, and they told my human mom and dad that she was doing well and that she was a very smart girl. The human visitors took lots of pictures and they are going to use them in a school project. Skittles is very photogenic! And I'm so glad she's my sweetie pie. I'll show her off in the next letter to you! 

I'm five years old, and I love people.  I like to be scratched on my neck, but most of all, I love to eat green grass and sweet alfalfa!  My sweetheart is Cashew.  He's a good babysitter for our baby, so when I get tired he takes over.  I have a star on my forehead, stripes on my fetlocks and a stripe down my back!  I'm pretty patriotic, so sometimes my human mom, Candy, calls me O'Glory, just like the flag of the United States.  On that note, I have to go vote.....on who gets eat in the big pen tonight. Kiss, Kiss!

Hi, my name is Cashew. My sweetheart, Khaki, just left a note about our little girl, Skittles. We all three live in Georgetown with our human parents, Candy and Dean, and now, we share this 'animal kingdom' with Butterbean. She is a white chihuahua and kinda looks like small white bouncing blob to me! She stood on Skittles back and they looked funny and I don't think either one of them liked that. Tomorrow, I'm going with Candy and her friend, Becky, to visit a lady who is very sick. The lady used to ride horses when she was growing up, so I want to help make her feel better by giving her a nice snuggle. I mean, I'm a boy, so it'll be more like a 'Hi, how are you?" but I'm really going to enjoy meeting her!

Welcome to Minis and Friends blog. We, the minis, decided we needed to tell the public about who we are and what we do in the community. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity organization that is 100% donation and volunteer based.

Not one of our humans take a salary and all donations come back to taking care of us - me (I'm MasterCard), SeanMonet (my bro), Buckshot and soon Bravo (we all live in the South end of Austin, TX) and my favorite mini buddies in Georgetown area - Cashew, Khaki and baby Skittles, and our new mini friend, Milli (she's a yearling).

Us boys are all geldings now and we have the gals too. We work mostly on weekends, because our people work other jobs too, but in Georgetown, our friend Candy is retired, so we work on weekdays as well.
